11. The Second Coming of Jesus (Matthew 24)

The second coming of Christ will be literal, personal, visible and universal. Jesus will return to complete the work of redemption and to take His children with Him to their heavenly mansions in the New Jerusalem.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:3

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.” James 5:7

Jesus’ coming will not be secret, but it will be a surprise to those who are unprepared:

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” 1 Thess 4:16.

The present position and present duty of God’s people are defined in Rev 14:12:

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”
